Visiting Northeast Forests

HOLLY BANK FOREST This is one of Tasmania's most popular picnic areas and has a distinctly European flavour. The forest is just 30 minutes from Launceston. A 40 minute 'walk of change' passes through examples of Tasmania's major production forests types in a demonstration forest. Interpretive signs show how each forest type is harvested and regenerated. In autumn, exotic deciduous trees are a colourful contrast to the natives. A place where the locals drop in for a barbecue or stay for the day to celebrate a special occasion. (information, toilets, forest information, sheltered and open air picnic areas, fireplace, gas barbecue, nature walks) |

Sideling Plantation

|
| Well-marked tracks among the plantation pines allow trailbike riders set their own level of challenge. Selected trees are harvested in a thinning operation in parts of this plantation, which means some tracks are occasionally closed and you may meet log trucks on the access roads. |

Griffin Camping Area (camping, toilet, picnic area, fireplace, trail bikes, fishing) This large camping area along the banks of the river is a great base camp from which to explore nearby forest reserves. It is also a popular base for trailbike riders who make use of the many forest tracks in this area. |
