Dorset is situated in North Eastern Tasmania. The Municipality of Dorset was proclaimed on 2 April 1993 following an amalgamation of the former Municipalities of Ringarooma and Scottsdale. The municipal boundary extends to include Musselroe Bay to the east and Nabowla, Golconda and Wyena to the west. Residents of Dorset enjoy a superb natural environment with clean air and beautiful scenery, ranging from coastal beaches to patchwork farmlands and temperate rain forests on the surrounding hills and mountains. |

Dorset has a very balanced economy. Agriculture and forestry are the major industries but the Municipality is sustained by light and service industries as well as commercial and residential development. Tourism plays an important role in attracting visitor spending which is spread across the community.

Secondary schooling to year 10 is available at Scottsdale and Winnaleah, with primary schooling available at Branxholm, Bridport, Ringarooma, Scottsdale and Winnaleah. Post-secondary schooling to year 12 is offered in a limited form at Winnaleah & Scopttsdale, while there is a daily bus service to Launceston from Bridport and Scottsdale for students to attend the various Launceston colleges. Medical services are well catered for in Scottsdale and Bridport and there is a district hospital at Scottsdale. |

Sports and recreation facilities are available in most towns in the region, offering a range of sports such as golf, tennis, basketball, swimming, netball, football, cricket, hockey and squash. There is an active pony club at Scottsdale while water sports such as fishing, skiing and yachting are catered for abundantly. For those who enjoy bushwalking, the region has many interesting and varied walks. |
