Providence Vineyards

Providence Vineyards
Premium cool – climate wines from Tasmania’s oldest vineyard.
When wine pioneer Jean Miguet first planted vines at Lalla in 1956, he named the vineyard after his French home.
Today’s owner Stuart Bryce researched promising locations across the nation, saw the potential of the old vineyard, and purchased it in 1980. (The vineyard’s name caused an international court battle lasting two years. It’s a good story – ask us about it!).

Our vines – pinot noir, Riesling, Semillon and Australia’s oldest plantings of chardonnay – are meticulously maintained by hand. Providence takes an uncompromising approach to quality – if the grapes don’t reach premium standard, they’re left on the ground to fertilise next year’s vintage. Providence wines, made by Tasmanian master winemaker Andrew Hood, reflect the changing mood of the vineyard, with interesting seasonal variations each year. In the Tamar Valley’s long, cool autumn days, our grapes ripen slowly, concentrating the intense fruit characters that provide complex and subtle flavours and aromas in Providence wines.

With our passion, skill and knowledge for fine wine, we do what we can – helped by the gentle warmth of a southern sun, and rain clouds, grey and heavy on Brown Mountain. At our cellar door you can sample premium wines from many of Tasmania’s boutique vineyards. We can package a mixed dozen for you, and freight it free anywhere in Australia. We’re open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm. Bring a picnic – we’ll find you a spot on the patio overlooking the vineyard. Come and enjoy the Providence experience.
