Eddystone Point Lighthouse

Eddystone Point was named by Tobias Furneaux in 1773 and the lighthouse was completed by the Galloway brothers in 1888-89. The light has guarded the entrance to Banks Strait since May 1889.

The circular tower is 37 metres high and made of granite quarried and cut near the site. The nearby quarry can still be seen today.

The three houses at the station are the oldest surviving lightkeepers quarters in Tasmania.

The lighthouse is surrounded by many protected enclosed gulches. There are numerous fish, crayfish and abalone are still plentiful here.
