Ralph Falls

Ralph's Falls are about 20km from Ringarooma.Half hours drive on the Ringarooma/ Pyengana Link Road. The Link road, officially opened in April 1998, passes through some spectactular scenery that Tasmanians often take for granted.

Tourists and locals alike have used the road as a link between Pyengana and Ringarooma and to reach two of Tasmanians tallest waterfalls: Ralph Falls and St Columba Falls.

The road was started in 1927 as a project for the unemployed but a sheer rock face saw the final 2km section lie incomplete for more than half a century. Norm Brown and the Ringarooma Progress Development League, battled for more than 20 years to see the final 2km stretch completed and the road made passable. Taking 86 working bees involving nearly 600 volunteers to complete the project.

Norm and his band solved the problem of the rock face by raising the level of the original surveyed road. This work resulted in the reinstatement and extension of the road as far as Ralph’s Falls. Work was completed with the assistance of a $305,000 State Government grant and support from Forestry Tasmania.

"Norm's Lookout" is a 10 minute stroll along a wooded path from the car park, where there are BBQ facilities and toilets available.
